Review by David Ellis for Toshiba SD3010 Upscaling DVD Player
Rating:
I bought this for my brother in law as a cheap and cheerful DVD player. It is cheap but very well made and with a well designed remote control. Performance wise I have no complaints and I was pleasently suprised by the picture quality.
Review by Ms. E. Price for Toshiba SD3010 Upscaling DVD Player
Rating:
The first thing I thought when I received the player was how light and small the player was. Its cool how this player is half the depth of my previous DVD player and £20 cheaper. It is of a good build quality, it doesn’t lack in solidity like some of the other players I’ve seen. It is also very quiet, it does make a noise when loading a DVD or when you are navigating through a menu but this is to be expected. And it upscales! this doesnt apply to every DVD; it appears that DVD’s after 2000 are more likely to upscale. I found it very simple to set up and it has a very reasonable price tag. The only downside is that the remote control is too small – Toshiba you should have made it bigger! Overall I would recommend buyers to seriously consider purchasing this player.

I was looking for a straightforward DVD player to use with our kitchen TV. I did not want a recorder or anything fancy.
This player is neat and so far does exactly what it says on the box. Easy to set up,use and gives a good result.

This slimline DVD is so easy to set up- although you will need to supply your own scart lead. Picture and sound quality are excellent. It is quite light weight so I decided not to sit the TV on top. I bought it to replace the integral DVD player part of my bedroom TV which broke down – Far cheaper than buying a new TV! Overall an excellent purchase.

I spent a long time trying to decide which Toshiba player to get. I always used my PS3 to play DVD’s but it wouldnt upscale nor would it play region 1 DVD’s. After a long time researching, it came down to this model (SD3010) or the SD390. The impressive reviews tempted meto buy, until I discovered that the player was too wide. I decided to continue looking and disregard this player.
After finding the Toshiba 3010 DVD player, I was relieved to discover that it was only 33cm wide. There were very few reviews, but I thought that it was worth a punt.
The first thing I thought when I received the player, was how light and small the player was. Its pretty amazing how this player is half the depth of my previous DVD player and £40 cheaper. Its also incredibly light and very good quality. The main downsides are that the remote is rubbish and the buttons are very hard, therefore they are unresponsive at times. The other downside is that the player is not multiregional ready, although it can be hacked (like mine was) to enable it to play all region DVD’s.
Pros:
> Small, lightweight design, that is very attractive.
> Very quiet – it does make a noise when loading or when you are navigating through menu’s but this is to be expected. Its a lot quiter than my PS3
> It upscales – this doesnt apply to every DVD. It appears that DVD’s after 2000 are more likely to upscale.
> Good build quality – doesnt seem flimsy like most players on the market
> Multiregion compatibility – just use the hack for the SD 390 model, as I think it applies to every Toshiba SD model player.
> Very simple to set up – no need to mess about with all usual rubbish.
> Cheap and cheerful – very reasonable price tag
Cons:
> Terrible remote control – unfortunatly this player has to have the worst remote control Ive ever seen. The buttons are very hard, so they dont always respond first time. They could have been a bit bigger, also. The remote does the job but I hate using it.
> You cant see how many minutes/hours are left on a DVD whilst its playing. Its a strange feature not to display for such a modern DVD player. Other reviewers for the SD 390 model, have also mentioned that the display takes up half the screen when it is shown. This is exaggeration. It doesnt take up half the screen and it does not cause any problems.
> Not multiregional until a hack is used – this was one of the main reasons I bought this player! However it is now.
Overall this player is certainly worth considering. In my opinion it is far superior to any of the other players Ive seen, such as the Samsung H1080, especially as its at such a bargain price.
