I purchased this to allow me to play video files direct, to save having to convert them to DVD. After reading some reviews I was a little worried that I made a mistake, as the review and the documentation said that it would only accept a 4Gb USB flash drive and that the largest file it would play was 1Gb. I can confirm that this is out of date information, as I connected my 125Gb USB disk drive and played larger than IGb files without difficulty. However it is important that the drive is formatted FAT32 as my other USB drive formatted NTFS wouldn’t play, but once reformatted FAT32, everything was fine.

The video quality is excellent, you can really see the difference between this and my old Sony DVD recorder. All in all a great purchase.

For the price it’s a real bargain and unlike so many devices with a remote control this remote actually works well and is very responsive even from quite a distance and angle, I mention this first because it’s a real pet hate of mine as so many remotes I’ve had are barely usable unless your a few feet away and standing right in front the machine!

Compared to some other DVD players I’ve had this one loads discs quite quickly and plays all the CD-R/DVD-R’s I’ve tried with no problems, it has the Toshiba REGZA system which means you can control the DVD player using a REGZA compatible Toshiba TV remote and that’s one reason I bought this player as I have a Toshiba flat screen and the TV’s remote does indeed operate the player quite well.

As another reviewer rightly stated the information in the handbook about what media via the USB port can be played is incorrect or maybe just out of date as I have found that just about all formats that can be played on disc can also be played via the USB port when using a USB memory stick or also a USB card reader and SD memory card including SDHC cards, I’ve used a 16GB SDHC card plugged into a USB card reader and the player finds it and reads it perfectly well, so if you don’t have a USB port on your TV or if like my TV the USB port will only handle jpeg pictures and not video you can via the USB port on the player watch video from memory cards plugged into a USB card reader or a USB memory stick.

I can’t think of any reason why anyone would be disappointed with this player and have to give it 5 stars.

We have a Toshiba TV and I’ve always been very happy with Toshiba equipment but this DVD player has been a dissapointment.

My first issue is with its width as it is wider than most of the boxes you’ll have beneath your TV and it didn’t fit into the ones where we have other components (PVR, X-Box etc.). My fault entirely as the dimensions are published correctly but I didn’t check as I can’t imagine any reason why any box should be so wide…its not like its designed to play the old Laserdiscs from 30 years’ ago!

We’ve also had problems with the sound cutting out intermittently for around 1-2 seconds throughout featres. I haven’t had time to establish whether this is because our HDMI lead is of too lower quality but, again, I expected more of the brand.

On the plus side is wasn’t expensive and you can pay more for the leads to connect a player to a TV. This one is probably heading for the boys play room as they don’t mind the sound cutting out…yet!

Very stylish, bargain price, great performance (including the upscaling) and the USB input for photos and DivX is a real plus.

I purchased the Toshiba partly due to having 2 Toshiba TVs and the usual brand reliability. Unfortunately, the first player delivered suffered with intermittent loss of sound for approx 1-2 seconds. This could be a dozen times throughout the film, sometimes not at all, I tried several diffent HDMI leads, no difference to the problem. I did not try using a scart as having a HD TV and an upscaling dvd player would sort of defeat the object of buying this model. I returned th player to Amazon who promptly sent a replacement as requested. Unfortunately, the replacement unit suffers from the exact same fault. Have arranged for it’s return and a refund. I will purchase from Amazon as their response to any problem is always first class, but will stay away from Toshiba dvd. It’s a shame, because when it worked, it was exactly what I wanted from a dvd player.
