The LG DB560 is a great Blu Ray player that does it all except for bringing you the popcorn and snacks, that….you will have to do yourself (“,)

If you play one of your DVD’s that has had some TLC with the quality of transfer and is anamorphic then this player will up scale to 1080p if the LCD supports it and the picture from DVD is nothing short of AWESOME! so if like me you have already built up a very large collection of DVD’s then be rest assured you won’t feel the need to replace them in a hurry like you would VHS to DVD ;-)

BUT it does show up shoddy put together DVD’s

As a Blu Ray player it does what it is supposed to do and plays Blu Ray really well so is as expected.

Plays files from USB that can be formatted to NTFS and Hard Drive.

    Pros

Quality from DVD playback is AWESOME!

Plays from USB and Hard Drive

Picture from Blu Ray is what you expect it to be

    Cons

    None at all

What a great blu ray player!

Previous to this I had the sony 360 which had slow loading times, bad designed remote and shocking playback quality of dvd & blu rays. I felt that perhaps I was buying for what I got (£120) and getting just a basic player. I was expecting more from Sony.

So I sold it as quick as I could and I thought I’d give the new LG BD560 a go as my tv is LG and still within my budget.

I was set up and ready to go within a few short minutes…Fantastic!

Beautifully set out home menu giving you options to playback movies, cds, and photos via disc or usb (front loading!!) and youtube access. All carefully thought out, for example if you are connected to internet playing a music cd will bring up the album cover and tracklist and the youtube playback has a choice of screen size depending on the quality of the online video. – Can’t wait for youtube to go HD!

The firmware updates came up quickly and once installed, I continued my playtime!

Loading times for BR are much quicker than before and the remote is well thought out and presented well.

Has HDMI 1.3, Component and coaxial (and 2ch audio, 1 video) as outputs.

As my tv is LG it also recognises the channel and also the remote will operate the tv, so I’m not tripping over remotes.

The two negatives, Firstly, and this is becacuse the model is so new (I think),it doesn’t playback Toy Story, so waiting for a firmware update! In the meantime I’m playing the dvd upscaled. Everything else I’ve played works fine. The second negative is I think the disc loading tray is flimsy, so don’t let your kids use it!

So to sum it up I’d say it’s a blu ray player that tries to do so much more so seperate itself in the market and it really does succeed. A great entertainment hub. 4.5 / 5 stars

I had a iomega director media player for a while before I hit it with a hammer.

I bought it to play mkv files with DTS and 5.1 soundtracks through my home theatre sound system.

The iomega did not do what it said on the tin. So eventually I achieved closure at the end of a hammer.

The 560 does everything I wanted the iomega to do AND it plays blu ray discs.

I use the coaxial connection to my amplifier and I can honestly say the 560 outperforms the iomega in every way.

The sound achieves superior separation, is crisper, the dialogue is way easier to hear and explosions sound like they should.

The picture quality is much more detailed. It looks like the upscaling is being applied to all video, I might be wrong.

I have used the USB to play DTS, Dolby 5.1 and mono movies, all flawless. I also connected a portable hard drive, no problems.

Some players wont read NTFS file systems. The 560 does.

I did see sync issue with some avi files, not all. I am downloading a firmware upgrade as I type which should fix this.

I dont own any blu ray discs but I might treat myself to Avatar this week-end.

This machine does everything my media player should have done and was cheaper than my media player.

    An absolute bargain.

Worked well for a week!!! Then the display only shows Hello, nothing apart from the eject button works. Called LG customer service but as I have taken the unit overseas they wont support it. Complete waste of money!!

Used with my LG 42LD690 42-inch Widescreen Full HD 1080p 100Hz LCD Internet TV with Freeview HD purchased from Amazon at the same time, high def superb quality on Blu-ray discs and also on standard DVDs. With LG’s Simplink system, complete interaction using either remote control.

    Slim and unobtrusive.

    Highly recommended.
