I have just received and set up my Sony Home Cinema, and noticed a mixed bunch of ratings. I followed the advice from M Dingwall posted in Aug 09 and set up scart from Home Cinema to TV scart 1 and Sky to TV scart 2. TV, SKY and DVD’s all work with the surround sound and it is very impressive. Just to cap it off, I set up my X-Box using the red/yellow/white jacks and contary to everyone else’s reviews about gaming systems not working and having to send the system back etc etc…. – it does work. My only negative is that the instructions should include this set up in a more user friendly manner.

I recently purchased a DAVDZ280 home cinema system and although I found the same connectivity issues as have been pointed out by other reviewers, I was able to work around them – and I am now very happy with the system.

The initial problem was getting surround sound from my Sky+ box. When I connected the home cinema to the TV via scart I was only getting the sound from the terrestrial channels. To get round that I had to connect the scart cable from the output of the Sky box to the home cinema instead of from the TV. This solved the problem and I could watch TV through Sky with full surround sound. This did mean I did not get surround sound when watching the terrestrial channels directly on the TV, but as they are all available on Sky this was not an issue.

The bigger problem was that because I was connecting to the home cinema from the Sky box, I could not play DVDs on the home cinema system. The only way I was able to get round this was to get a Scart Switch connected to the home cinema, with one cable going to the TV and one to the Sky box. This solved the problem and I now have all the functions I want.

It was a bit disappointing to have to fork out more money for these additional items (the scart switch and another cable), even though they were very cheap (

The sound quality is absolutely amazing,DVD`s make the room shake, have only dared put volume up to 60% cos I think it would smash the windows if turned up any higher.

Who wants surround sound for conventional TV programmes ?

No you can`t have surround sound for PS3 either but you will not care once you stick your Ipod in and turn up the volume you will be glad you bought it

I bought this assuming it was a modern player that would do all the normal digital things. But is has no optical input so there is no way I can play my games console through it. My TV receiver system can input sound to it via scart lead but is non digital. Why was this glaring deficit not clearly highlighted for the great majority of people who will want to play other inputs through the theatre?

The Sony Speakers and Subwoofer look fabulous, I love the piano black finish it goes so well with a Piano Black TV.

However, this product is not worth buying unless you buy it just to have 5.1 Surround whilst watching DVD’s and I will tell you why:

    Pro’s:

    + High Quality Material

    + 850W Output

    + Good Bass

    + Easy to Set up

    + DVD Upscaler is decent

    + iPod Docking Station

    Cons:

    - Not compatible with anything other than itself (NO INPUTS AT ALL#

    - Sound can be very tinny

    - Only 5.1 whilst using the DVD player

    - Not compatible with any other products such as an xbox360 or PS3

    - Cheap Remote #does not respond very well)

    - Confusing Menu, hard to get around

    - Bulky, the player will take up all the space in your living/bed room

    - No Eject Button

You cannot connect this product to any other device, I was hoping to connect this to the PS3 however this is impossible.

Quality of the sound is sometimes very poor, I preferred to use the TV’s speakers to watch telly.

Would not recommend this to anyone.

Only buy this if you just want to use this whilst watching DVD’s.

Glad Amazon took it back, they do offer an excellent service!
