I wish people reviewing this item would check that they are referring to the stated product. I want to purchase one of these but 2 reviews are talking about the hard drive which this machine does not have.

DVD and Freeview PQ is very good, however…….
the fan is intrusively noisy and operates all the time whether recording or not. It also continues for over 5 minutes after the unit is switched off.
Also, the player switches on in the middle of the night (3 – 4 am) to update the EPG, with the accompanying fan noise. This function cannot be switched off (unless you switch off the unit at the wall before going to sleep each evening).
If you value your beauty sleep, don’t buy this. It will wake you in the night.

I have just recently purchased the above recorder and I find it fantastic does everything I want it to do n more.
I am a keen amature n I find it great 4 transfering from video to DVD format as I hava an old Camcorder
On the manuel its a lot of reading but worth pondering over,it took a couple of days aclimatise yourself and get up n running.
I’m afraid Sharon You haven’t got the same machine as me as Ive no hard drive.
The remote takes a bit getting use to but on the plus side it takes care of everything,I am still trying to figure out my TV Number as it only gives a limited few in the Manuel,it would be helpfull if they gave you a list like they do if you buy a universal remote.

I bought one of these a few weeks ago… worked fine during the first week. During week two, the freeview picture froze up occasionally, and didn’t recover, the unit switched itself off instead! It started doing this several times, and then the final straw… it switched off whilst playing back a prerecorded dvd! It is now back with the suppliers, and I spent an extra 100 pound to get the Panasonic EMREX77EB instead, and am delighted with it! It has a 160gb hard drive, and my wife recorded her first programme onto the hard drive without asking me for help, and she got it right! I trust Panasonic more than Sony for this type of product, as my other DVD recorder is also Panasonic, and I’ve had it for 2 years now.
