Review by R. Trigger for Sony RDR-HXD1065S – DVD Recorder With 250GB Hard Drive
Rating:
I love this product. It is a bit too pricey and the lack of two digital tuners seems an oversight but the picture quality is excellent, use of the Freeview EPG is easy (much better than GuidePlus) but two great features are the ability to add your MP3s and JPEGs. MP3s are stored in album order and are easily played from a subsection of the recorded programmes list. Similarly JPEGs can be transferred straight from the camera memory card and there’s a great feature to turn JPEGS into a movie with themetune and transition effects and burn back onto a DVD.
So the only downsides are price and lack of a 2nd tuner. Picture quality, sound, ease of use, photo and MP3 management are all great.

Expensive and DVD won’t play all my DVDs. Only about half of them. Packed up at about 18 months old. Out of guarantee and Sony say take it to Sony centre for expensive repair. This was the flag ship model. Not happy about paying out again. Sorry Sony, you let me down and I have been using Sony products since 1964.

Although this has lots of features and the picture/recording quality is good it is let down by the speed (or rather lack of speed) with which you can navigate the index of recordings made on the hard disk. It isn’t possible to view many recording titles on the same screen and the process of scrolling through the titles is painfully slow. Not competitive with Sky+ or Topfield PVRs in my opinion.
